We are actively working to integrate with all types of smart meters, including SMETS2. While this process is underway, some smart meters might require manual readings temporarily to ensure billing accuracy.

Upgrading to a Smart Meter

If you're currently using a traditional meter, you have the option to upgrade to a SMETS2 smart meter. SMETS2 smart meters offer significant benefits, including improved accuracy of your energy usage readings and the minimization of estimated bills. To upgrade:

  1. Submit a Request: Contact Jellyfish Energy to request a meter upgrade to SMETS2 smart meters.

  2. Await Contact from the Asset Management Company: Once your request is recorded, our designated meter asset management company will get in touch to arrange the exchange process.

Smart meters can be used for both electricity and gas. They measure and record usage in real-time, and send the readings automatically to us, right here at Jellyfish. This means billing is accurate to usage and is never based on estimates, as it does not require the customer to contact us about their readings.

What sets smart meters apart from traditional meters is that they come with an in-house display (IHD), so that you, the customer, can see your electricity usage and what this converts to money wise. As a result, there are no surprises on your bills!

Why Manual Readings May Still Be Needed

Even if you already have a smart meter, Jellyfish Energy is not yet fully integrated with all smart meters. This means that some customers with smart meters may be asked to submit manual readings temporarily. Submitting these readings helps maintain billing accuracy and ensures no discrepancies until full integration is achieved. We appreciate your patience as we continue enhancing our systems to support seamless smart meter functionality.

They are also affordable to run and can help you identify your electricity use patterns and thus identify opportunities for reducing waste and saving energy.

Smart meters can be applied to either non-half hourly or half hourly meters. If you would like to discuss options for changing to a smart meter, once we announce our official launch date, you can call our customer service team on 0345 222 3030. Once you make a request, our meter asset management company will contact you to guide you through the exchange process.

We are making steady progress on integrating our systems with all smart meters. Please check back soon for updates on our timeline for full integration.
