Why might there be a delay in receiving a bill?

Understanding the timing of your energy bills can help clarify why there might be a delay in receiving one. Below, we explain the key factors that influence when your bill is generated and delivered.

Understanding Your Billing Cycle

Bills are generated based on your account's specific billing cycle, which is determined by a predefined bill-on date. This date is set when your account is created and dictates when bills are issued. If you submit a meter reading before the next bill-on date, your bill will not appear until that date. For example, if your bill-on date is the 17th of the month, your bill will be released on or after the 17th. This ensures that all usage up to the bill-on date is accurately accounted for.

First Bill Timeline and Process

If you are waiting for your first bill after your energy supply has started, it may take 2–3 months to receive it. This delay occurs because your energy supplier must first receive and validate your opening meter readings and account information. This process involves coordination with multiple parties through industry-standard data flows. Once the validation is complete, your first bill will be generated. This initial bill may cover your energy usage from the supply start date up to the billing date. After this, your account will transition to the regular billing cycle, with bills issued on a set day each month. By understanding these processes, you can better anticipate when to expect your bills and avoid unnecessary concerns about delays.
