Switching energy suppliers by mistake or without permission is known as Erroneous Transfers. Thankfully, these can be rare and easily fixed. It is very unlikely that your energy supplier can be switched without your permission. However, if you are a tenant in your home and don’t pay the bills yourself then technically your landlord can change the energy supplier without your permission.

There are a number of factors that may be the reason your supplier has switched you mistakenly. These include:

  • Computer error

  • Your meter isn’t labelled properly in the national database

  • There has been a human error

  • Mixing up details after moving into a new property

A usual sign of an erroneous transfer is a letter or email stating that you are leaving. Once this has occurred please contact our customer services team immediately on 0345 222 3030 or drop us a message through our live chat.
